Toyoda is a typical neighborhood Izakaya. The building doesn’t look very big from the front, but upon entering one is surprised about the size of this place. The spacious and (a bit too) brightly lit interior has room for a large U-shaped counter in the front, followed by several tables and in the back there is a raised floor-seating area. The menu is large, a full cross-section of Japanese cuisine, from yakitori, fish in all variations, sushi, tempura, nikomi, oden, and in addition a large selection of daily specials. Maybe this variety of seating arrangement and menu also is the reason for the variety of guests, not only the middle-aged neighborhood boozer but also company employees, couples, groups of young ladies and families with their kids.
The variety of food is good, taste sometimes a little sub-standard. On a late October day, I ordered the daily service sashimi 三点盛り (santenmori / 3 kinds of sashimi), at 430 Yen a real bargain, 秋刀魚開き (sanma biraki / pacific saury, dried overnight and grilled) (350 Yen), some Oden (300 yen) and Yakitori, 120 Yen/skewer, good value. Also the drink menu is quite large, no gourmet surprises but the variety is above average, including some family friendly non-alcoholic drinks and even sparkling apple cidre. The service is friendly. Toilets for men an women are separate, western style.
Conclusion: Family friendly, good value, low smoke.
