Angela is a wine-tavern operated by the Kerz vineyard. Located in the center of Bodenheim, about 10 min walk from Bodenheim train station. On weekdays the guests are mostly locals and some touring cyclists, but on weekends people from the near by Rhine-Main cities flock to the place. Angela’s drink menu offers 35 kinds of Kerz vineyard local produce, from simple table wine to award-winning whites and reds. The authors favorites are the dry 2007 Chardonnay, 0.2l glass for Euro 2.50 and the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot cuvée, for Euro 2.90, a real bargain. Besides the usual German sausages and pork schnitzel stuff the food menu has local specialities like the Spundekäse (paprika flavored cheese spread) served with pretzels (Euro 5.70) or Schweinemettaler, a kind of pork-hamburger served with spinach and fried potatoes (Euro 6.90). Also very recommendable is the homemade Gulaschsuppe (goulash soup) (Euro 2.90).
End of September when the grape harvest season starts, Angela offers Federweisser (fermenting young wine) (Euro 2.00) to be accompanied by a piece of Zwiebelkuchen (onion cake), Euro (2.20), a delicious combination.
Capacity of about 60 persons, in the warm summer months additional tables and chairs are put in the paved courtyard, then about 120 persons can sit here. Very friendly service.
The food portions are German sized, be afraid.
1.00 Euro calculates to about 130 Yen
